Yiyin Li, Viola

Yiyin Li is a member of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. He has been the associate principal violoist of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra and principal viola of the New England Conservatory Philharmonia and Chamber Orchestras, EOS Symphony Orchestra, Outstanding Chinese Youth Artists Orchestra, Seiji Ozawa Ongaku-Juku Orchestra and Pacific

He started playing violin at age three and switched to viola at 12. He was a prize winner at the 11th Primrose International Viola Competition, the China Young People’s Artist Music Competition, China Viola International Competition and first place in the New England Conservatory School-Wide Concerto Competition. Li was the recipient of the Abraham Skernick Memorial Presidential Scholarship and the Presser Award from The Presser Foundation.

As a chamber musician, Li has won honors at the New England Conservatory Honors Ensemble Competition and third prize in the Central Conservatory of Music chamber music competition. He has participated in the Ravinia Music Festival, Yellow Barn Music Festival, Pacific Music Festival Japan, Saito Kinen Music Festival, and the Beethoven Music Festival.

Li was educated at the Central Conservatory of Music and the New England Conservatory. His primary teachers are Kim Kashkashian and Wing Ho.
